Bike thieves won’t be so keen to get back in the saddle following a new crime prevention initiative just launched at a bike club in Derbyshire.

Over 30,000 bikes have been security marked using BikeRegister kits over the last five years in the London Boroughs of Richmond, Westminster, and Kingston alone.

Almost 80 bikes were security marked at a police event aimed at tackling bike theft in Widnes, Cheshire.

More than 1,200 bicycles are stolen every day in the UK, according to research by insurance firm Direct Line. The company left locked bikes in ten cities around the country and most were stolen within 24 hours - half disappeared within two hours.
