Q. Once I place my order, for a Membership Plus kit, Permanent Marking Kit or, Covert Marking Kit how long will it take to receive my order?
A. After payment is received it will take up to 5 working days for you to get your BikeRegister marking kit. Often it is much quicker.
Q. Can I purchase more than one kit and pay only one delivery charge?
A. If you are ordering more than one kit for multiple bikes you will only need to pay one delivery charge.
If you wish to add a kit to your existing registration, login to your account and go into each of your bikes registered to add the kit you require into your basket. Please note that once you have added the item into your basket you then have to click back to ‘My Bikes’ to add further kits for each bike. By clicking the back button it will not remove any kits added to your basket.
If you wish to purchase a kit for a new registration, simply click on 'Register another' on the checkout page.
Q. I’ve received my BikeRegister kit through the post that I ordered directly from the BikeRegister website, how do I now register?
A. You do not need to register as your account has already been created upon ordering. Go to www.bikeregister.com and click ‘Login’. Then click ‘My bikes’ it should show your kit code that is registered to your bike. You do not have to do anything further, other than mark your bike with the kit that you have purchased.
Q. I’m new to BikeRegister and I’ve purchased my marking kit at a shop/show, how do I now register it online?
A. Firstly you need to go to www.bikeregister.com/register and click the ‘Register now’ button. It will then take you through the registration process. Make sure you skip the 'secure your bike' step as you have already purchased a kit. When you have completed the process, you will be logged into your account. Now click on 'More options' then 'Register my retail kit' and enter the kit and PIN number from your membership card and click ‘Register’. Your kit has now been assigned to your bike.
Q. I’ve purchased multiple kits online, how do I know which kit goes with which bike?
A. If you purchase more than one kit to mark multiple bikes please login to your account to check which number has been assigned to each bike before marking them.
Q. After purchasing my kit, how long will my bike remain on the database?
A. All the details will be held on the database for the lifetime of the bike.
Q. Does that mean it is a one-off payment, with no annual charges?
A. Yes, that’s right. BikeRegister does not charge you for amending your details, adding photos or transferring ownership.
Q. How can my bike be identified as mine?
A. Police can identify a bike in one of four ways:
1. The Frame Number which appears on almost all bike frames (but is not always unique)
2. The unique Permanent BikeRegister Stencil Etching Mark
3. The unique BikeRegister QR Code Labels
4. The unique microdots in the BikeRegister Covert Marking Kit
Q. What is the idea behind the Log Book?
A. The Log Book works in the same way as a vehicle log book does – proving details of who the bike belongs to. If you sell your bike, the Log Book is passed on to the next owner, so that the ownership details can be changed.
Q. Do the Police know about bikeregister.com?
A. Yes, BikeRegister is used by every UK Police Force and is the preferred bike marking system of the Metropolitan Police Service. The police often carry out many Bike Marking Days using our products in areas of high crime.
Q. How can I upload a photo of my bike?
A. Photo uploads are free and can be added on in your account section. In order to upload a new photo, you first need to login to your account, click on the bike you wish to add a photo to, click the ‘Photo Uploads’ tab and then use the form to add your photo to the site.
Q. How can I amend any unwanted photos of my bike on my account?
A. Login to your account click ‘My bikes’ then ‘More options’ then manage images. You can delete/amend any photos here.
Q. How can I add a new bike registration to my account?
A. Adding a new bike registration to an existing account is a simple process. Simply login to your account and click on the ‘Register another bike’ button. Select the desired product and continue through the checkout process. Once completed, the bike will be automatically added to your account.
Q. How can I transfer ownership of my bike?
A. In order to transfer your bike registration to a new owner, you will need to know their email address. Simply login to your account, click on the bike you wish to transfer, click the ‘Transfer’ tab and enter the email address of the new owner. They will be notified of the transfer by email and will need to follow the instructions provided to complete the transfer.
Q. How can I update the status of my bike?
A. To change the status of your bike you first need to login to your account. Once logged in you will see the details of your bike(s) in which there is a status section with either a ‘Report as Stolen’ or ‘Update Status’ red outlined button. Click on the button that is relevant to your situation and update the status of your chosen bike.
If reporting a stolen bike please provide some details of the theft including the Crime Reference Number.
Q. What if my bike doesn’t have a frame number?
A. In order for your bike to be effectively protected, you need to provide as much unique information as possible. Although not always unique, we recommend you provide the frame number, particularly for free registrations, otherwise it will be difficult to find your bike on the system. If you have no frame number, we recommend our Membership Plus Marking Kit as a minimum level of cover.
Q. Can I use one kit to mark multiple bikes?
A. Unfortunately not. Each BikeRegister marking kit provides a unique BikeRegister ID that gives your bike its own registration number and provides a proof of ownership (just like a log book for a car). If you wish to mark multiple bikes you need to purchase a different kit for each bike.
Q. Can all bikes be marked with the permanent visible etching?
A. Any bike with a painted or lacquered finish can be marked with the standard plastic marking compound. However, if your bike frame is uncoated carbon fibre, uncoated aluminium or uncoated titanium, then we recommend using our Membership Plus Kit.
Q. How visible is the permanent etching on different colour bike frames?
A. The etching shows up best on light coloured bike frames. On dark coloured frames, the etching is less visible, but will still fluoresce under UV light. UK Police forces are aware that they should check for any markings under UV light and many officers carry UV keyring lights for this very reason.
Q. I have purchased a Membership Plus kit but am confused as to why it contains two QR stickers. Can I mark two bikes with one kit?
A. The Membership Plus kit contains two QR stickers which should be applied to one bike only. Stickers contain the same unique BikeRegister code which is linked to your bike. Therefore the stickers cannot be used to mark multiple bikes. We suggest you use one sticker on the frame and the other on the forks.
Q. Do you sell Datatags or other RFID tags?
A. We used to. However, so few frontline police officers have access to the scanners required to detect them that we believe they are fast becoming redundant in the fight against bike theft.
