Bike found an ownership traced via the Bike Register

A neighbour spotted the bike outside the local Budgens so we retrieved it. The British Transport Police have been sent the details that we have of the person who was in possession of my sons bike

I was contacted by Dave via BikeRegister. He lives on the same road as me and had found the frame (minus wheels and accessories) outside his neighbour's house. He initially thought it had belonged to them but that they were getting rid of it (i.e. had left outside for anyone interested to take). After discovering that it was not theirs he checked on BikeRegister where he discovered the bike had been stolen. He contacted the police who said they no longer dealt with bike thefts. He then contacted BikeRegister in order to get a message (email) through to me (although said the process was not straight forward). Very glad of his perseverance with the matter.

I did a lot of research on the seller of my bike (found on Facebook Market Place). Found name, number, address, motorbike registration and all social media pages. Sent this all to the police and they recovered my bike for me.

I found the bike at the start of January 2022 in the garden of 45 Mount Street, Aberdeen. It was still locked, the rear wheel was damaged but I retrieved it, got it repaired and use it again.

Contacted by a member of public who said they had seen it went down and collected

Noticed bike locked to stand outside Royal Standard pub in Cambridge. Applied lock and left contact details. Bike had been purchased in good faith by worker at the pub from an individual frequently identified as seller of stolen bicycles, Sophie Louise, partner of Darren Valentine (also frequently identified as seller of stolen bicycles). Purchase was made via Facebook Marketplace.

The bike was sold on via Gumtree and then re-registered on The Bike Register. The police managed to contact the new owner and return the bike.

Recovered from the thief

The police would not help me. They take their time and are on holiday while they do not care about my bike. I advertised it here and on other sites and a person who found it in a bush next to Bluewater contacted me and I gave him a finder's reward.

The bike was found down the road by my girlfriend. It was still attached to the railings which had been torn off the wall to get to it. It is known why the thief gave up but I am relieved.
