School Sets Up Family Cycle Library

The Burlington Danes Family Cycle Library in West London is aiming to help more parents and children to cycle to school and for leisure.

The project, based at Ark Burlington Danes Primary Academy has been set up by the school’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and is funded by Walking and Cycling Grants London, a programme backed by Transport for London in partnership with The London Marathon Charitable Trust.

The library has a range of adult bikes, child bikes and seats available to families from the school and the wider community to borrow during half term breaks. This is supported by one-to-one cycle training for adults provided by Bikeworks.

New cycling families are paired up with existing cycling families to support cycling to school together, and there are also going to be a series of family cycle rides in the local area open to all.

Theft of the bikes whilst on loan is a risk to the project so as well as investing in good locks, the PTA also marked and registered all the bikes to BikeRegister.

The PTA has also held a bike marking event at school, helping to protect the bikes of parents and staff.
