Surge Bikes Fights Back Against Cycle Crime
3 Apr 2024Surge Bikes, an e-bike retailer based in Basingstoke, have proactively taken measures to deter cycle theft by partnering with BikeRegister – the UK’s National Cycle Database.
After recognising an increase in bike theft, particularly in urban areas, Surge Bikes wanted to provide their clients with point-of-sale marking in order to protect their bikes.
By marking a bike with BikeRegister kit, it is 83% less likely to be stolen than an unmarked bike. Surge Bike’s bespoke BikeRegister Membership Plus Kits includes a customised tamper-resistant TESA security label as well as a warning sticker to alert criminals that your bike is marked.
Matthew Cooke, Director at Surge Bikes discussed the new partnership with BikeRegister, saying: “As a business we have a wide geographical reach covering many of the UK’s largest cities with a bias in cities towards high-value cargo bikes for families. This is where we have seen a marked rise in theft, one which caught us by surprise.
“Bikes being used for transport and commuting are by definition at higher risk as they are often parked for longer periods in accessible areas.
“BikeRegister was the final step we have taken in order to offer maximum protection – we already partner with Bikmo for free ride-away insurance and sell/advise on market-leading locks.
“Identification markings serve as another line of defence and recovery to protect our customers assets.”
