All Safe & Secure At London Victoria
9 Jan 2018As part of their highly successful Safe and Secure Programme, Victoria BID (Business Improvement District) has partnered with British Transport Police to offer a Cycle Safety Surgery, including free maintenance checks, at Victoria Mainline Station.
The Victoria Hub Team was set up in addition to the existing police structure to cover the external public areas of Victoria Station, Victoria bus terminal and Victoria Coach Station.
During the Cycle Surgeries, Victoria BID distributes free hi visibility rucksack covers, mini LED bike lights, reflective slap bands and awareness leaflets to encourage safe cycling.
This adds to the BID’s existing partnership with the Metropolitan Police in Victoria where cyclists can opt for free security marking and registration onto BikeRegister’s online database. Registering a bike helps police and retailers identify and verify the legitimate owner of bikes that have been stolen or are being resold.
Victoria BID’s Safe and Secure Programme set a precedent as the first of its kind in a British BID. The programme brings businesses and police services together to ensure best practice and has delivered huge success over the past five years.
Highlights include:
2,700 people attended 16 Safer Cycling events which offered BikeRegister bike marking
260 events providing crime prevention advice, contributing to a 17% reduction in crime
48,500 crime prevention and safety items distributed
36% reduction in rough sleeping in the area
200 businesses advised in the Cash Handling Fraud Initiative
180 local businesses are part of Victoria Radio Link that connects to local police services
Over 28 body-worn cameras distributed to police officers as part of a successful pilot scheme.
