New App Downloaded To Thousands Of Police Mobiles

Following its recent launch, the new BikeRegister mobile app has been welcomed by police and crime prevention officers across the UK and has been hailed as a quick and effective tool to help fight bike crime.

Available on android devices through the Google Play Store, the app is being used by 22 Police Forces including British Transport Police (BTP) who are actively using it to support them at the many bike marking sessions that take place at train stations and other locations across the UK.

Superintendent Mark Cleland, British Transport Police, said: “BTP has now installed the BikeRegister app across all of its thousands of Police-issued mobile devices. Every day BTP officers register and recover lost and stolen bikes.

By utilising the BikeRegister app, it means officers on the frontline can be ever more professionally curious to check if a bike is one of the more than 820,000 bikes already registered.”

“It’s just another way in which Police across the UK are tackling cycle crime and how cycle owners can help stop their property being stolen.”

The app allows an officer to log in to their BikeRegister police account and start uploading bikes in real-time to the database, without the need for filling out spreadsheets during marking events. It also provides a quick and easy way to search a bike and retrieve the owner’s details, and includes access to training videos.

A Support Officer working in conjunction with West Midlands Police is pictured using the app at a recent bike marking event in Lichfield.

The features and benefits of the new BikeRegister app include: checking a cycle serial or frame number; scanning a barcode on the cycle; registering cycles on the database; viewing videos on how to mark cycles and other topics; and viewing a search history.

If you are a police officer and don’t have a police account with BikeRegister yet, then you can create one through the app by using your .pnn.police. uk email.
