City of London Police’s Layered Approach to Improving Cycle Safety
29 Apr 2024
City of London Police have initiated a new Cycle Response Unit in order to crack down on cycle safety, including the distribution of approximately 1,000 fixed penalty notices for going through red lights.
Their aim is to spread awareness around cycle safety and crime prevention in order to make the City of London a safer place to cycle. They relaunched their cycling capability last summer to help combat phone snatching, as well as other offences like drug and road offences.
As part of this initiative, the Cycle Response Unit hosted a cycle safety operation day, where they presented a cycle safety roadshow, offering the opportunity for cyclists to have their bike marked with BikeRegister. The event proved to be a great success, as they were successfully able to mark 44 bikes. They also seized 7 e-bikes and made 1 arrest.
