Cambridgeshire Constabulary have recognised that cycle crime is the “most prevalent single offence category” in Cambridge, and have proactively reduced cycle theft within the city, with the best deterrents being bike registration and investing in a good bike lock.

Cambridgeshire Constabulary have reported that between 2020 and 2021, there was over 2,000 cycle thefts, which has now been reduced to 1,300 between 2022 and 2023, a 35% reduction over the last three years.

A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Constabulary, said that they have been: "Working closely with partners across the city to combat theft through cycle awareness days, bike marking, catching offenders and recovering stolen bikes with proactive patrols".

BikeRegister has worked for many years in close partnership with police forces across the country in order to reduce cycle theft and facilitate in bike recovery in the unfortunate event that a bike is stolen.

Inspector Ed McNeill, from Cambridgeshire Police, who was a guest speaker at our 2023 Cycle Crime Conference, added: "We have marked over 1,300 bikes in the last year. If a bike is found and registered, it can quickly be reunited with its rightful owner."
