In light of post-Covid guidance on choosing a more sustainable way to travel to school, an organisation called Bikes For Schools (http://www.bikesforschools.org.uk) has been set up to help out families who may not be able to afford a brand new bike or scooter for their child/children.

Schools can sign up to join the scheme at no cost to themselves and members of the public can donate a bike/scooter, help collect or store donated bikes or even offer their services as a bike mechanic or Trustee.

Alison Drugan, founder of Bikes for Schools said; “We want to see every child have the chance to experience the joy of cycling or scooting. Both are fun and encourage a sense of adventure and independence. Our bikes are being marked with BikeRegister by volunteers and we are partnering up with the cycle safety team at Bromley Council to do further markings. Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and support even more families.”

• A donation of £15 could help Bikes for Schools match 1 family with a bike or scooter for 1 term.
• A donation of £30 could help pay for essential safety checks on a bike or scooter before it is loaned out.
• A donation of £50 could help pay for a full service on a newly donated bike.
• A donation of £60 could help purchase a safety pack comprising a helmet, hi-viz vest, bell and puncture repair kit.
