Bike Thefts Fall by 15% in Leeds

Due to the rising rates of bike theft in and around Leeds, West Yorkshire Police and Leeds City Council have partnered with BikeRegister to offer bike marking in order to deter and reduce cycle crime.

Since launching the partnership with BikeRegister, bike theft has reduced by 15.5% in comparison to the previous 12 months.

Paul Denison, Force Crime Prevention Officer at West Yorkshire Police discussed the importance of bike marking, saying: "It makes your bike harder to sell on and therefore much less attractive a prospect.

"I would urge bicycle owners to join us at one of the regular bike-marking events where you can get your bike added to the National BikeRegister."

Due to the ongoing successes, West Yorkshire Police plan on rolling-out the initiative further with Bradford Council and Wakefield Council.
