Bike Shops Offer Bike Marking Service

20 Dec 2011

Bicycle shops in Ruislip and Northwood are offering customers the chance to have their new purchase security marked and the details logged on BikeRegister.com

Officers from the police Cycle Task Force and Safer Transport Command, which is funded by Transport for London, have teamed up with two bike shops to offer the service.

They will also record details about the owner and the bicycle which are uploaded onto the BikeRegister database, an identification system which allows police and retailers to identify stolen bikes.

The service is being offered at Specialised Bikes, High Street, Ruislip, and at Northwood Cycles, Pinner Road, Northwood.

Chief Inspector Ian Vincent, of Cycle Task Force, said: “We want Londoners to enjoy cycling this Christmas so if you are out buying a bike this month, come and get it security marked and registered for free.

“We advise any cyclist to follow ‘the three R’s’ - record the details of their bike, register them onto online property databases like http://www.bikeregister.com and report any theft to the police.”

“These are simple steps that all cyclists should take so that if their bike is stolen they stand a good chance of being reunited with it.”
